Craigshall Cottage features a number of energy saving, eco-friendly facilities. One of the biggest savers is the solar hot water system, installed for us by Monahan & Hornal in April 2007. The system features a 120 litre mains-pressure storage tank (by McDonald Engineers Ltd ) and two solar collector panels (Filsol) controlled by a 'Resol ' unit.

The system works by having a closed, pumped circuit through the collectors which heat the water/antifreeze mix which then runs through a coil in the storage tank to transfer the collected heat.  The 'Resol' control unit only runs the pump when there is heat to be extracted from the collectors.

The whole system works very well and was installed with the absolute minimum of fuss. The guys from Monahan and Hornal were in and out in less than a day.
